    Get Your Macros Right

    Macros are the new calories for weight loss. The idea here is that the relative proportion of macronutrients in your diet is key to managing body weight. This is because macros influence blood sugar levels. Over time, that means lower insulin and less body fat.

    The USDA recommends the following macros for the average adult : 10-35% protein, 20-35% fat, 4565% carbohydrate.

    For women with PCOS, this macro balance is likely to cause weight gain.

    I recommend a diet thats roughly 20% protein, 60% fat, and 20% carbohydrate. This is low-carb by most standards, but not ketogenic. As I explain here, I dont recommend the keto diet for PCOS.

    I provide a full accounting of macros for PCOS here. The key take home is that the best way to lose weight with PCOS is to eat more fat and fewer carbs. Doing so improves insulin regulation which leads to a reduction in body fat.

    The balance of macros is more important than how many calories you consume.

    Why Is It Hard To Lose Weight With Pcos

    Polycystic ovary syndrome weight loss can be challenging for most women diagnosed with PCOS. What makes shedding weight difficult is insulin resistance. When you have high insulin resistance, your body doesnt process carbohydrates the way it should. As a result, your body starts storing more fat, and weight regulation gets massively affected.

    When a body doesnt normally respond to insulin or requires higher than normal insulin levels to move blood sugar into cells, losing weight becomes difficult. Some people may even have to rely on PCOS medication for weight loss.
