Bottom Line Diet Coke Vs Coke Zero
Both these carbonated drinks have a similar ingredients list, with the only important difference being the proportions of the ingredients that actually give them different flavor profiles. Another important difference is that Coke Zero Sugar contains two extra sweeteners not found in Diet Coke.
Both drinks are calorie-free and sugar-free and are both artificially sweetened. Hence, they have the same level of sweetness. Also, there is no nutrition in them as both are nothing but empty calories.
Even though these soft drinks contain no calories, they still might lead to weight gain. For example, individuals who drank any type of diet soda were just as likely to gain weight as individuals who consumed regular soda, according to a 2010 article published in the Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine.
Moreover, artificial sweeteners are linked to a higher incidence of cardiovascular problems, according to a 2017 study conducted by the Canadian Medical Association Journal. More importantly, research establishes a strong association between the consumption of carbonated drinks and mental health issues.
Lastly, according to a University of Minnesota study, intake of one diet soda every day was associated with more than 35 percent increase in the risk of diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

So Which Is Healthier
Despite both Coke Zero Sugar and Diet Coke being branded as the healthier alternatives to regular coke, neither of them are actually good for you.
Although they may not have sugar in their list of ingredients, both Diet Coke and Coke Zero feed your habit of consuming extremely sugary drinks. This means that your taste buds get used to that level of sweetness and will continue to seek them out. In fact, studies have shown that it can actually lead to an increase in caloric and sugar consumption, and result in long term weight gain. The phosphoric acid content isnt healthy either, as it can damage tooth enamel which contributes to dental erosion.
Nonetheless, if you absolutely had to make a choice between regular and diet/zero sugar, we would say the latter would probably be a healthier choice. Just remember, healthier does not mean healthy.
If you ask us what we think the best drink is? Its water. Hands down.

Are Artificial Sweeteners Safe
People have been looking carefully at artificialsweeteners for a long time. As early as the 1970s, studies involving lab ratslinked one artificial sweetener, saccharin, to bladder cancer for the animalsstudied. However, this study was not seen as enough, as the National CancerInstitute and other health agencies eventually took the position thatartificial sweeteners were safe in smaller amounts, even for people asvulnerable as those who are currently pregnant.
The risk of artificial sweeteners tends to bebased on which ones are being used. For instance, Diet Coke contains Splenda, acesulfame potassium and sucralose Coke Zero contains aspartame and acesulfamepotassium. These have not been found to be as immediately risky as some others. In the past, an artificial sweetener called sodium cyclamate was usedin Coke Zero, but was found to be carcinogenic and was ultimately removed. Eachof these additives has their own story, so depending on the goals of your lowcarb diet, some extra research might be warranted.
Ultimately, the key point is that to avoidconcerns one must stick to reasonableamounts. The FDA gives things like these additives a pass only whenconsidering an acceptable daily intake, or ADI. This means that if you aregoing to be safe, you should be sure to keep your coke drinking amounts at areasonable level. This leads us to ask what is a reasonable amount of these drinks in your diet?
