Proven High Carbohydrate Foods Good For Weight Loss
Since fats lost the blame game for obesity, carbohydrates have earned a bad reputation.
But what most people tend to forget is that carbohydrates are a vital macronutrient and the most readily accepted source of energy by our body cells.
Sudden elimination of carbohydrates could leave you sluggish, fatigued and with a mental fog. When it is said that carbohydrates cause weight gain the focus is on sugars and simple carbohydrates.
And by sugar it is literally table sugar and not those found in fruits in natural form.
Refined carbohydrates are also associated with poor nutrient quality and weight gain. However healthy carbohydrates are complex carbohydrates.
These do not spike your blood sugar thereby fueling your appetite.
Instead they provide nutrients, dietary fibre and some health supportive antioxidants.
And consumption of these healthy carbohydrates has been associated with weight loss.
But Wont Performance Improve Once You Become Fat
Low-carb advocates will admit that athletic performance initially suffers when you make the switch from a high-carb diet to a low-carb one. Theyll even argue that there wasnt a more consistent improvement in Phinneys cyclists, because they werent yet fat-adapted.
Once you do get fat-adapted, say these folks, performance will bounce back because your body will be able to utilize fat more quickly to replenish ATP. Youll be able to lift weights with the same power and run forever without bonking.
First, tests were done on Phinneys cyclists which showed that they were indeed thoroughly fat-adapted. So that wasnt the issue. But their sprinting ability still suffered in fact, the cyclists who were the most keto adapted were the ones whose sprinting performance deteriorated the most. No matter how fat adapted you get, anaerobic activities fueled by fat dont have as much power as those fueled by carbs. Yes, you can run a long time, at a moderate pace, without refueling, but when you need to sprint, youre going to feel absolutely empty.
Carbs For Weight Loss
Just as we’ve been hearing more and more about good and bad fats, diet gurus are starting to talk more about good and bad carbohydrates. And word is getting around.
On her television show, Oprah Winfrey claimed to have lost weight by switching from bad carbs to good. Likewise, many diet programs, such as Body-for-Life, tout the health benefits of good carbs. But are there really such things as good and bad carbohydrates?
“Some carbs are better than others, but it’s not really a question of one carb being ‘good’ and one being ‘bad,'” says Jack Alhadeff, PhD, professor of biochemistry at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
“If you’re eating to get energy for physical activity right away, simple carbs — pasta, white bread, processed cereals, and the like — work well. If someone is heavy or wants to manage weight, it is smart to chose high-fiber carbohydrates.”
Why? Because all carbohydrates are broken down into sugar, or glucose, which is the body’s fuel. Carbohydrates with little fiber break down quickly. Those foods with carbohydrates trapped in fiber take longer to break down. The rate at which this happens can be represented on what nutritionists call the glycemic index.
“Unless you’re a diabetic, glycemic index may not be all that important,” says Alhadeff, who adds that since most of us eat a variety of foods in a meal, the accuracy of the index can be questionable.
So, what is fiber, exactly?

High Carb Diets For Weight Loss
High carb diets for weight loss have been sweeping the world for delivering quick weight loss results. Traditional diets have shown that when carbs are reduced, the body produces less insulin, which leads to the breakdown of excess fat cells. With a high carb diet, naturally, its meant to be accompanied with physical exercise and a proper diet plan. Today well be talking about low carb vs. high carb diets.
The Beet: Wow This Sounds Grim So Too Much Fatty Food And You Get Inflammation
Dr. K: Right. When you eat a high-fat diet, not only can your cells not metabolize carbs over time, but the blood vessels in the organs and the brain become less malleable. The liver accumulates fat and that predisposes you to have “fatty liver.” As a result of that your C-reactive protein goes up and the incidence of hypothyroid goes up. It’s an increased inflammation response in the body. And this is not something you can feel. Chronic inflammation is not like a stubbed toe. You cant feel it, but your cells in your adipose tissue can burst and spill fluids into the tissue around them, and then your immune system gets involved and has to send macrophages to clean up the cell debris. This means a fatty diet is tied to being immune-compromised.
“But it’s not just in people experiencing obesity. Someone who appears to be fit goes to the gym and looks greateven they can live with chronic inflammation and they don’t see it because it’s in blood vessels and organs, liver and even the brain, from eating a high-fat diet.”

According To A Study Published In The Journal Nutrients Overweight People Put On A High
According to a study published in the journal Nutrients, overweight people put on a high-carb diet for 16-weeks reduced their overall body weight and body fat, without adding any exercise. While you may have heard carbohydrates are bad and can make you fat, this study gives you a reason to include them in your daily diet in order to lose weight. When you think of carbohydrates, bread, pasta, potatoes and all things fattening come to your mind. But before you start gorging on to these foods, please note that ‘carbohydrates’ is a broad category of food, of which these foods are a part. Carbs may also include vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains- which is what the study’s participants ate during the research.
As per the researchers, under a dietitian’s supervision, the participants ate a plant-based diet and cut their daily fat intake to about 20-30 grams . At the end of the study, these participants also decreased their insulin resistance- a condition where your body’s cells do not use blood sugar for energy efficiently.
As per the researchers, fad diets generally lead people to fear carbohydrates. The research continues to show that healthy carbohydrates– from fruits, vegetables, beans to whole grains- these foods are the healthiest fuels for the body. The study here focuses on not obsessing over carbs, but choosing the right ones.

More Easily Available Energy
One of the biggest reasons we like to recommend a high-carbohydrate diet is for energy. High carbohydrate foods are excellent sources of quick, ready-to-use energy that your body can easily access when you need it most!
Carbohydrates give us a burst of energy because they’re directly processed and sent into the bloodstream as glucose – also known as blood sugar – which our cells can use as fuel.
Since foods that are high in carbs are packed with energy, they’re often the body’s go-to source when you need a quick boost of energy – whether that be from physical activity or just in your day-to-day life! These high-carbohydrate diets are also great for athletes because carbohydrates provide quick bursts of energy that can be used during intense physical activity to help you train harder!

So What About Protein
Protein is a very important nutrient that our body needs to build muscle, repair cells and tissues, and keep us satiated. It’s very important, but we have two important caveats to this source of energy.
Eating too much protein in the long term can also put stress on your kidneys if you’re not careful!
And second, there are a number of risks associated with eating meats, especially processed and red meats, which are a very common source of protein. High intake is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke!
For this reason, we recommend a balanced intake of protein, carbohydrates and fat from natural sources like vegetables, fruit, legumes/beans/lentils, and intact grains.
Your body will thank you!

Rice can be invaluable in fighting for a slim figure when you lose weight eating carbs, although it is usually not customary to use the product when losing weight. But the cereal perfectly cleanses the body and contains the necessary and useful components. To obtain a good result, it is not the type of rice that matters but the rate it is consumed at.
A High Carb And Low Fat Diet Can Actually Help You Burn Fat
Restrictive diets work if they are done properly. Contrary to popular belief, a high carb and low-fat diet can help you lose weight. Since the rise of keto diets, people have started to shun carbohydrates. Popular belief is that these macronutrients contribute a lot to weight gain.
Science says Long-term recommendations to achieve a diet lower in total and saturated fat with increased consumption of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and without focus on weight loss, do not cause weight gain.
This was part of the findings from The Journal of the American Medical Association on a study about a high-carb diet and weight loss. See, it is possible to lose weight when on this high carb and a low-fat diet. Possible if you are burning more calories than you are consuming.

Too Many Treats Or Sweets
While on a diet, many people eat chocolate or candy. Such behavior is extremely reckless concerning their bodies since all the efforts will fail. If you decide to follow an all carb diet for weight loss, dont deviate from the action plan. If you really want to get a dose of serotonin, eat a spoonful of natural honey.
Eat Starch Instead Of Fats
This advice will surprise many because, from the point of view of nutrition, starchy foods have to be discarded. However, starch can quickly saturate the stomach. By including this component in your menu, you will be able to reduce your total daily calorie intake quite well. Starchy carbs should be no more than ¼ serving. The rest of the serving should consist of dietary products: lean meats, fish , vegetables, a boiled egg, and fruits.

Other Reasons Why Protein May Be Beneficial For Weight Loss
- Protein leverage means that our bodies will seek out food and nutrition until we have reached our innate set point for protein intake.10Based on the protein leverage hypothesis, eating low-protein foods means youll overeat calories to get enough protein. Eating high-protein foods will do the opposite.
- Studies show that eating protein increases thermogenesis the amount of energy required to digest and metabolize food. The energy required can be as high as 15% of total daily energy expenditure and is consistently higher with high-protein meals.11
- Eating high-protein foods helps you avoid the energy-dense, nutrient-poor food that is so easy to overeat. Take a look at our guide to the top protein foods. You arent going to find many processed, hyper-palatable foods. Thats a win for protein!
How Many Carbs And Calories Should People Eat To Lose Weight
Although many studies indicate that low carb diets promote fast weight loss, often this reduction in weight is short-term.
Recent research supports the idea that high-quality nutrition does not just involve controlling calories that come from carbs. Instead, dieters should pay attention to how many calories are ingested from all food sources, including carbohydrates, protein, and fats, and find a healthy balance.
In a recent study, dieters were observed to compare the different weight losses that resulted from a low-fat diet and a low-carb diet . The researchers found that after 6 months of following calorie-reduction diets, weight changes were similar for both the LFD and LCD groups.
The recommend that an adults total daily calories come from the following:
- 4565 percent carbohydrates
- 1030 percent protein
- 2035 percent fat
Some nutritionists recommend a ratio of 40 percent carbohydrates, 30 percent protein, and 30 percent fat as a good target for healthy weight loss.
A 1,500 calorie diet with 40 percent carbohydrates translates to 600 calories per day from carbs. Using a ratio of 4 calories per gram of carbs, a person on this diet would need to eat 150 g of carbohydrates per day.
This 1,500 calorie diet would also include 450 calories or 112 g of protein, and 450 calories or 50 g of fat per day.
|450 calories||50 g|

The High Protein Diet
Yes, a high protein diet DOES work for weight loss. I myself have done it with short-term success.
A couple years back I was training with a personal trainer that promoted a high protein and very low carb diet. Even whole FRUITS on a high protein/low carb diet are a big no-no. You’re basically eating meats, low-carb vegetables , and healthy fats.
High protein worked really well for a short period of time, but after a little while, the cravings hit. I wanted fruit and I couldn’t stand the restriction. As much as I enjoyed the weight loss results, I knew I wanted to find something sustainable, and high protein wasn’t going to be the right fit for me.
Right around the same time I was learning more and more about the immense benefits of raw fruits and vegetables, and how most chronic disease is caused by eating too much animal protein.
My views on fruits and vegetables were changing, and ultimately fruit won out over my trainer. I quickly traded in my high protein diet for a high carb diet that included protein.
Kris Carr, author of Crazy Sexy Cancer & Crazy Sexy Diet, includes this excerpt from Dr. Alejandro Junger on the subject:
The Healthiest Foods Are High
The healthiest diet plans are heavy in various plants.
The healthiest, longest-lived communities in the world eat most of their calories from plants.
Many popular diets are trending towards the idea of eating whole foods that are minimally processed.
When looking at the average carbohydrate content of 279 foods from the U.S. Food Database, the average carbohydrate content clocks in at 67%.
Fruits and vegetables are high carb foods.
Mounds upon mounds of research continues to extoll the health benefits of fruit and vegetable consumption.
Yet only 1 in 10 Americans eats the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables, daily.
Adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet will improve your nutritional health while inherently pushing your dietary intake ratios into that of a high carb diet.
Carbs have been vilified. But some of the healthiest foods fruits and vegetable are mostly high carb foods.
But not all carbs are good.
