What Can You Eat
The eating plan on the 17-Day Diet reduces the intake of carbohydrates by eliminating all refined carbohydrates and sugars. The diet does allow for some whole grains and prioritizes low-carb vegetables, lean protein, and healthy fats. The 17-Day Diet works in cycles, with different foods allowed during different cycles.
The program includes three meals per day plus snacks. The goal is to keep people who are following the diet from getting hungry. From the first cycle, you can eat as much as you want of specific proteins and the so-called “cleansing” vegetables.
The diet blueprint includes suggested meal plans for all days, although you can mix and match those plans to suit your own tastes. You also can elect to do fast days in between the cycles to supposedly jump-start your weight loss.
To follow the 17-Day Diet, it’s helpful to purchase Dr. Moreno’s book, which includes meal plans and recipes along with the diet blueprint. Still, most meal templates are simple. For example, a typical breakfast in Cycle 2 includes 1 cup of lean granola with 6 ounces of no-sugar-added fruit-flavored yogurt, while a typical dinner would feature garlic shrimp, steamed green beans, and a large tossed salad dressed with 1 tablespoon olive oil.
Many well-loved foods are off the table for the duration of the 17-Day Diet. Though proponents say this is what accelerates weight loss, you may find it makes the diet tricky to follow when eating or socializing with friends and family.

Very new to the Breakthrough Edition of the 17 Day Diet are optional fast days that can be used in between each cycle or during a period of weight gain from overeating.
The new Optional Smoothies for the 17 Day Diet Transitional Fast Day is a day in between each cycle that you drink a vitamin and protein-rich smoothie for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Limitations: The diet starts off at its most restrictive — 1,200 calories, with a high-protein, low-fat, no-carb emphasis . But as users move through the cycles, more and more foods are added.

What To Watch Out For In Cycle 3
You may notice your weight loss slows down in Cycle 3.
However, changes in body composition occur, so make sure you take measurements before you start this cycle.
So while the scale doesnt move that much for most, youre likely to see your dress size go down!
If you can remember that Cycle 3 is more of a mental game, youre good to go.
If you stick faithfully to this cycle, youll likely lose more weight once you go back to Cycle 1.

Quick Overview Of Cycle 1 Of The 17 Day Diet
Cycle 1 of the 17 Day Diet is where most experience rapid weight loss.
Cycle 1 is also known as the detox cycle.
Its in this cycle where youll remove from your diet added sugars, refined carbs and other starchy vegetables, grains and high-sugar fruits.
Youll stay on this cycle for no more than 17 days.
What Youll Eat On Cycle 2
Your 17 Day Diet Cycle 2 Meal Plan will be similar to the last cycle, but youll add in other types of proteins and starchy foods every other day.
So youll alternate between Cycle 2 days and Cycle 1 days.
Cycle 2, Day 1 Example
For instance, on day 1 youll add in other types of lean proteins , and youll enjoy two natural starches before 2pm .
Youll continue to eat two servings of low-sugar fruits by 2pm, two probiotics, and limited healthy fats.
Cycle 2, Day 2 Example
On your second day of Cycle 2, youll revert back to a Cycle 1 menu.
Youll load up on unlimited amounts of lean proteins and cleansing vegetables , and continue with the limited low-sugar fruits, probiotics, and so on.
Cycle 2, Day 3 Example
On day 3 of Cycle 2, youll go back to a cycle 2 menu with the expanded food list. And on day 4, youll go back to a cycle 1 menu, and so on.
During Cycle 2, youll continue to keep yourself hydrated with your hot lemon water first thing in the morning, green tea at meal times and water throughout the day.

Quick Tips For Cycle 3
During Cycle 3, youre allowed to eat your starches after 2pm.
However, if you want to continue to lose weight during this cycle, its best to eat all starches before 2pm.
Avoid alcohol if you want to see the weight continue to drop off, too!
A quick tip for Cycle 3 includes the use of the Transitional Day Fast every 7 days during this cycle.
Foods To Eat During The Activate Cycle
In addition to the Accelerate options, you can add the following options during the Activate cycle:
- Shellfish: Crabs, clams, oysters, mussels, scallops, shrimp.
- Beef : Flank, top sirloin, top round, eye of the round, round tip, top loin, lean ground beef.
- Pork : Sirloin chops, boneless loin roast and top or center loin chops.
- Lamb : Shanks and sirloin roast.
- Grains: Amaranth, barley , quinoa, bulgur, couscous, brown rice, cream of wheat, grits, basmati rice, millet oat bran, old-fashioned oatmeal.
- Legumes: Black beans, black-eyed peas, butter beans, garbanzo beans , great northern beans, kidney beans, lentils, lima beans , navy beans, peas, pinto beans, soybeans, split peas.
- Starchy vegetables: Breadfruit, potato, sweet potato, corn, taro, winter squash, yam.
Grains, legumes and starchy vegetables can only be consumed on activate days, and one serving of grains and legumes is a 1/2 cup cooked.
